Zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated steel is a new product in the global steel trading industry. It is the result of various extensive steelmaking studies that have enabled steelmakers to produce coated steel that is better than galvanized steel.

This coated steel is a highly modified version of corrosion-resistant steel, made primarily of zinc (Zn) combined with certain amounts of aluminum (Al) and magnesium (Mg). ZAM coated steel is widely used in different types of construction and can be formed into any type of steel component or shape.

Corrosion resistance comparison with galvanized steel
Galvanizing is a production method in which a zinc coating is applied to steel or iron to prevent corrosion or rust. This technique, especially the hot-dip galvanizing method, is widely used in the manufacture of steel products.

However, Hangzhou Younger Import and Export Co., Ltd., aiming to become the best steel manufacturer in the world, has paved the way to manufacture better quality steel plate products through its ZAM® coated steel. This product is superior to galvanized steel in every respect because of its higher corrosion resistance, cost and time efficiency, etc.

ZAM®-coated steel is superior to galvanized and hot-dip galvanized and 5% Al-coated steel in terms of red rust resistance. To demonstrate this, ZAM products were tested for outdoor exposure using galvanized and hot-dipped galvanized 5% aluminum steel in a rural environment in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, and in a coastal environment in Nakajo Village+, Okinawa Island.

Exposure testing lasted 8 years. In a rural environment, the results showed that the corrosion loss of ZAM-coated steel was only about 16-24 g/m2, compared to ~38-51 g/m2 for zinc-coated steel with 5% Al, and ~76 g/m2 for galvanized steel -89 g/m2.

In coastal environments, corrosion loss results were ~33-43 g/m2 for ZAM® coated steel and ~66-82 g/m2 for zinc coated steel with 5% Al, high corrosion loss rates for galvanized steel ~105-115 g/m2.

In summary, ZAM-coated steel is four times more corrosion resistant than galvanized and hot-dip galvanized 5% Al-coated steel.
